Kaga Yuzen is one of three major kimono dyeing techniques in Japan.
Its tradition was created in Ishikawa Prefecture.
This technique features “5 Colors of Kaga” (Kaga gosai) which are shades of blue, red, yellow, dark green, and purple.
The patterns traditionally consist of natural ornaments and may include old leaves, reflecting nature’s beauty as it is.
Located in the heart of the city, Okuda Studio offers easy to understand explanations on the process of Kaga Yuzen, the symbology behind the motifs and hands-on yuzen painting experience. The incredible Pokémon Kaga Yuzen kimono at the Pokemon Center in Kanzawa Station, is credited to Artist Okuda, serving as a testament to her innovation and commitment to bringing the craft into the present.
At Okuda Kaga Yuzen Dyeing Studio, you’ll paint your own hankerchief guided by the artists hand to take home as a souvenir and take photos in Kaga Yuzen kimono.
